OPEC will cut production if necessary to ward off any sharp drop in oil prices, Venezuelan Energy and Mines Minister Mr Bernardo Alvarez said today.
"If a supply cut is needed, we will do it," Mr Alvarez told reporters on the sidelines of a US-Venezuela energy seminar.
Negotiations between members of the Organization of Peteroleum Exporting Countries were proceeding daily, mostly through telephone conversations between ministers, he said.
"You see the situation of prices, we are evaluating that. There is a drop in demand. This is what we see," Mr Alvarez said. "If there is more supply than demand, we have to take out some of the oil to balance the market."
