Two Palestinians have been killed in separate incidents in the Palestinian Territories.

A Palestinian gunman was shot dead when clashes erupted between Israeli forces and armed Palestinians in the refugee camp of Jenin in the northern West Bank.

Palestinian medics said Mr Samih Nursi, a 22-year-old member of the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, was killed as gun battles broke out in the camp, the scene ofregular clashes between the army and Palestinian gunmen.

Earlier, Jewish settlers killed a Palestinian man when they opened fire on people picking olives in a village grove south of the West Bank city of Nablus today.

"A group of 10 to 12 armed settlers opened fire and tried to disperse the olive-pickers," said Mr Ghaled Myadmeh, mayor of Aqrabah village. "They opened fire extensively and Hani Yusuf, 24, was killed and another man wounded."

Myadmeh said he had filed a complaint with Israeli liaison officials yesterday after the same armed group fired on the olive-pickers.

Israeli army spokesmen in Jerusalem said they were checking the report.

Palestinian witnesses said Israeli soldiers were in the area at the time, and that the settlers had surveyed the Palestinians through binoculars before firing.
