`Bond . . . the name's James Bond, licensed to kill." Imagine the surprise and excitement of the cabinet of the Irish Commissioner, Pee Flynn, when they got an unusual invitation last week to go to a lunch in the British embassy to discuss the EU Presidency's social affairs programme.
Mr Flynn was invited and, the letter suggested, he could bring Pearce (sic) Brosnan with him - it was going to make an exciting and glamorous lunch. Perhaps the idea was to discuss Mr Bond's political incorrectness on the question of woman?
Then some spoilsport pointed out that the embassy had probably accidentally merged two of the cabinet members into one - Pearce O'Donoghue and Joe Brosnan.
