The entire Offaly senior football squad has resigned in the wake of manager Gerry Fahy's departure last night.
In a statement released today, the team blamed the Offaly county board for giving them no choice.
"The callous treatment and lack of support for outgoing management, previous management, and players, from the Offaly county board for the last number of years has unfortunately brought us to this decision.
"Regrettably, we feel that we have been left with no choice but to withdraw our services for the coming season.
"This is a heart-breaking decision for this panel of players as we are, and always have been, 100 percent committed to Offaly football."
Gaelic Games in the county suffered a surreal blow last night when both Fahy and the hurling boss, Mike McNamara, tendered their resignations.
Fahy, along with his selectors, stood down despite being returned for another term on a 27-26 vote conducted last week. They resigned because of the apparent lack of faith shown in them from board delegates.
Fahy and his management team had been in charge for just one year. They won promotion to Division One after delivering the Division 2 title last spring.
McNamara followed in a similar fashion, citing a lack of support from county officials. He would have been entering a third year in charge had he continued.
