Fears that Kurdish rebels might hit Turkish resorts following the trial of Abdullah Ocalan have wrought havoc on the tourism industry, which provides a third of Turkey's export income and contributes 4.5 per cent to GNP.
A survey by Turkish travel agencies predicts an annual $2 billion loss in tourism income along with a drop of some 2.5 million in the number of foreign visitors if cancellations from abroad cannot be reversed.
