CAMPAIGNING AT the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines on Thursday night, US president Barack Obama delivered his sharpest attack yet against his presumed Republican opponent in the November election.
The president mocked Mr Romney, who said during a May 15th visit to Des Moines that Mr Obama’s failure to rein in federal spending was causing “a prairie fire of debt”. That is a “cow pie of distortion”, Mr Obama said.
Republican policies would add trillions to the debt, he said. That’s like trying to “put out a prairie fire with gasoline. We’re going forward. We’re not going to double down on the same bad ideas.”
Mr Obama said he had signed $2 trillion of spending cuts and would ask the wealthy to pay more to help lower the debt. – (Bloomberg)
