Fianna Fáil's Mrs Mary O'Rourke has lost her seat in Westmeath to Fine Gael's Mr Paul McGrath.
Mrs O'Rourke is first the high profile cabinet casualty of the Election. The poll was topped by Labour's Mr William Penrose with Fianna Fáil's Mr Donal Cassidy in second.
As Minister of Public Enterprise Mrs O'Rourke presided over the flotation of Eircom on the stock exchange.
Mrs O'Rourke is currently the deputy leader of Fianna Fáil. The loss of her seats appears to be the only blot on what is surely one of Fianna Fáil best election results.
