Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has moved to clear up the mystery over his absence from Florida by confirming he is still in contract talks with Dermot Desmond.

The plot thickened yesterday when O'Neill again failed to fly into America and show up for training with the rest of his squad.

The Parkhead boss had been expected to join his players after jetting off to director Desmond's Sandy Lane retreat in Barbados.

But O'Neill said: "Because of my meeting with Dermot Desmond I may now be unable to meet up with the team in Florida as I first thought. If this is the case I now plan to meet up with them in Glasgow for Tuesday's training".
