The trial of Mr Brendan Patrick O'Donnell was adjourned in the Central Criminal Court yesterday following a joint application by the defence and the prosecution. Mr Justice Lavan sent the jury away until this morning when the trial is due to resume.

Following legal discussion in the absence of the jury for a short time yesterday morning, Mr Justice Lavan called in the jurors and told them a joint application from counsel had been made for a day long adjournment.

The adjournment came on the 29th day of the trial of Mr O'Donnell (21), of Co Clare but of no fixed abode, who denies three murders and nine other charges relating to events in the west in 1994.
