O'Callaghan back on Sunday morning

RTÉ Radio has announced details of its autumn schedule, which features the return of Miriam O'Callaghan to Sunday mornings.

Miriam meets...is being brought back for another run after launching during the summer.

On RTÉ Radio 1, Drivetimewill be extended until 7pm, with Des Cahill rejoining the show. Sports journalist Daragh Maloney will present Sport at 7, after Drivetime, while John Creedon will host a new weekday evening music show.

Two arts shows - Arenaand The Arts Tonight- are among five new programmes in the station's weekday evening and weekend schedules.

On RTÉ Lyric FM, Marty Whelan will present the weekday lunchtime show, while author Deirdre Purcell will holt a Saturday and Sunday show, All About the Music. Gay Byrne will return for Sunday with Gay Byrneand Daybreak, a new morning show, will be presented by Liz Nolan.

Dave Fanning will move to the 7pm slot on RTÉ 2FM for what the station is promising to be "a fast-moving topical chat show".

RTÉ also announced plans to re-position 2FM next year following a strategic review, with the target audience shifting from the 15-34 age group to the 25-44 demographic.

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will broadcast four new series and a traditional music programme, Na Ceithre Cúigí, to be presented by Áine Uí Laoithe and Pádraig Ó Sé.

It will also feature a new factual documentary series to mark the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Gaeltacht Civil Rights Movement

The last batch of JNLR/TNS mrbi figures, published in May, show that RTÉ Radio 1 had a national market share of 22.7 per cent, almost twice the listenership of the next most popular station, RTÉ’s 2FM.

2FM saw its share of listenership drop by 0.2 per cent to 11.6 per cent, while commercial station Today FM suffered a 0.3 per cent fall in market share, to 10.6 per cent. Lyric, which recently marked its 10th anniversary, was unchanged at 1.7 per cent.
