The National Union of Journalists will picket Belfast High Court today in support of the Sunday Tribune's northern editor, Mr Ed Moloney. Mr Moloney is seeking a judicial review of a court order demanding that he hand over his notes of interviews with Mr Billy Stobie, Suzanne Breen writes Mr Stobie is facing charges in connection with the murder of the Belfast solicitor, Mr Pat Finucane.

"Mr Moloney's case is about protecting the independence of the media from state control, the fundamental right to protect sources and the basic right to work," Mr Eoin Ronayne of the NUJ said.

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties said: "There is no indication that Mr Moloney is in possession of any more information today than that which the police have had since 1990. The effect of the present action is that both Mr Moloney's livelihood and life have been put in jeopardy."
