Waste management and energy group NTR has completed the sale of Airtricity to Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) for about €1.1 billion, it has been announced.
NTR said the purchase price includes payment for the proceeds from the recent sale of the Airtricity North American business unit of approximately €0.8 billion.
The combined sale proceeds, including the North American transaction, net of transaction costs and other adjustments, is approximately €1.8 billion.
Airtricity, which has 300 employees, develops and operates wind farms across Europe. It currently supplies green energy to over 38,000 commercial customers in Ireland.
The company has 14 wind farms throughout Ireland and Scotland and a further nine under construction.
SSE, an integrated electricity and gas provider, is listed on the London Stock Exchange and has four wind farms in Britain with a total capacity of almost 170MW.
