Universities in the North are to give students an “end of year report” under a new pilot scheme.
Eighteen institutions have signed up for the Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) which will be given to students when they complete their degrees.
The reports will give information on a student’s achievement throughout their time at university, such as a breakdown of grades by modules and details of areas in which they have excelled.
The reports will be given alongside a graduate’s traditional final degree grade and aims to give employers, higher education institutions or other interested parties more contextual detail about a candidate’s performance.
The new scheme follows a report published last year that recommended introducing a single document for measuring and recording student achievement.
The reports will be trialled early next year with existing undergraduates alongside current methods of recording student achievement.
Higher Education Minister David Lammy said: “While the UK degree is a highly valued and internationally recognised qualification, we believe that providing clear and transparent information is essential both for students and their future employers."
