The UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today said Pyongyang had asked it to pull its inspectors out of a controversial North Korean nuclear facility in Yongbyon.

"We have received a letter from DPRK (North Korea) which said take our inspectors out of North Korea," said agency spokesman Mr Peter Rickwood, adding: "We are the process of drafting a response to that letter."

Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) earlier announced the expulsion and North Korea's intention to reopen the reprocessing plant a week after Pyongyang said it would reactivate nuclear facilities frozen for the past eight years.
