Mr Justice Gage warned the members of the jury not to discuss the case with anyone or even among themselves overnight, and told them to return to the Old Bailey tomorrow at 9.15 a.m.
The five men and seven women, who spent four hours and 50 minutes considering the evidence today, have been told not to think they are under any pressure.
Mr Barry George (41) unemployed, from Crookham Road, Fulham, south-west London, has denied murdering Ms Dando on April 26th, 1999.
Mr Justice Gage told jurors: "You must decide this case on the evidence you have heard in court.
"You must not seek any further evidence about this case.
"You must not discuss the case amongst yourselves once you have left this courtroom, until you come back to this court tomorrow."
He said it might sound like a "slightly cumbersome procedure" but was a rule of the jury system.
"Put it out of your mind and have yourselves a good rest," he told them.
Ms Dando was shot through the head on the doorstep of her home in Gowan Avenue, Fulham.
Mr George denies being at the scene when the murder was committed.
