Paris - The prospect of the of President Chirac of France and President Khatami of Iran clinking wine-glasses over dinner upset preparations for a visit to Paris next month by the Iranian leader.
The daily Liberation said yesterday that Iranian diplomats had been insisting that Dr Khatami, who had been scheduled in Paris on a groundbreaking trip on April 12th, could not sit down for dinner with Mr Chirac if wine was served. Dr Khatami would be the first Iranian head of state to visit France since the advent of the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
