THE MAKERS of the controversial documentary on Irish language poet Cathal Ó Searcaigh have banned their own film from a festival they run in Gortahork, Co. Donegal.
Fairytale of Kathmandu, the controversial documentary that focused on Ó Searcaigh’s sexual relationships with young Nepalese males, will not be shown at this year’s An Guth Gafa documentary film festival in Gortahork which is home to Ó Searcaigh and documentary makers David Rane and partner Neasa Ní Chianáin .
The annual festival will run from May 15th. It will feature documentaries from several countries – but not Fairytale of Kathmandu.
Mr Rane said it would be “inappropriate” to show the film in the current climate. “It doesn’t feel appropriate to show it in a festival at Gortahork at the moment.”
