A Dublin youth has been warned he cannot have any contact with a child he is accused of abusing nearly three years ago.

The 17-year-old had been charged at the Dublin Children’s Court last week with defilement of a child under section 2 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2006.

It is alleged that the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, engaged in “a sexual act, to wit oral sex with a child under the age of 15”, at a location in north Dublin, in July 2009. Yesterday the court allowed the teenager to have his passport back after a €2,000 independent surety was lodged in court. It has not yet been decided whether his case should stay in the juvenile court or instead be sent forward to a higher court.
