LOOKING happy, fit and healthy, playwright John B. Keane made one of his rare visits to Dublin for the opening night of The Field in the Gaiety Theatre. All the talk at the interval was about Pat Laffan's extraordinarily powerful performance as the Bull McCabe a tricky role given the wonderful actors, including Richard Harns and Ray McAnally, who have already put their stamp on the part.
The play is produced by Ben Barnes and Arthur Lappin, who is off to Cannes next week for the screening of another of his productions, Some Mother's Son. There has been a bit of confusion about the title of the film, which is directed by Terry George, stars Helen Mirren and is co-produced by Jim Sheridan. "The name has come full circle," says Arthur. "That was its original name, but we've gone through countless other options in the past few months including Somebody's Son and even Sons and Warriors. Needless to say we're delighted with the name we now have.
