THREE men with addresses in Liverpool appeared before the Dublin District Court yesterday charged connection with the seizure of an estimated £1.5 million worth of heroin in the city on Tuesday night.
Before the court were Mr Jeremiah Millar (36), of Gill Street; Mr Patrick Gallagher (44), of Burnage Close, in Speke; and Mr Stephen Lynch (52), of Harland Green, also in Speke.
All three are charged with possessing the heroin with intent to supply at Strandville Avenue, Clontarf, on May 21st.
Det Garda Peter Noonan told the court how, after being charged and cautioned in Clontarf Garda station, Mr Millar and Mr Gallagher made no reply. Mr Lynch replied: "Not guilty".
Gardai are objecting to bail being granted to the three defendants.
Det Garda Noonan told the court that about two kilos of heroin were found by gardai.
The defence solicitor, Ms Jenny McGeever, said her clients were not applying for bail at this time. However, she applied for each of them to be granted free legal aid, saying all three were unemployed and unable to afford a solicitor.
Judge Gerard Haughton refused the application by all three after hearing in Mr Millar's case that he was allegedly caught with £750 000 worth of heroin on him.
Judge Haughton said all three defendants could fill out a detailed statement of their means on a legal aid application form which could be presented to the court in a week. He remanded all three in custody without bail to appear again next Wednesday.
