A judge said she wanted to know why a 13 year old who had been sexually abused by a man had been left without counselling for more than a year.

"I want the Eastern Health Board to come in here and explain why they have done nothing," said Judge Gillian Hussey.

She was speaking in the case of a 40 year old Clondalkin man who had pleaded guilty in Kilmainham District Court to sexually assaulting a girl, then aged 12, in the family home, on dates in 1994 and early 1995.

Judge Hussey read reports on the girl who had been seen once by St Louisa's Unit in Our Lady's Hospital, Crumlin, and once by a social worker. She had been promised appointments for counselling but had not received any.
