More than half of those killed on Northern Ireland's roads last year were not wearing seatbelts, it was revealed yesterday. The RUC Assistant Chief Constable, Mr Alan McQuillan, who launched a new seatbelt campaign at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital, said: "The RUC is strongly committed to road safety education and devotes a lot of time and energy encouraging safer and more responsible use of the roads," he said. Some 59 drivers and passengers died in accidents during the first seven months of this year and of those, 30 were not wearing seatbelts.
