Premiership Round up
Newcastle destroyed north-east rivals Middlesbrough 3-0 at St. James Park this afternoon to remain three points clear on top of the Premiership. But Liverpool edged closer to the Magpies by winning 2-1 away to Aston Villa thanks to goals by Jari Litmanen and Vladimir Smicer.
Manchester United also kept up their challenge with a hard-fought 2-0 win away to Everton. At Ewood Park, Irish internationals Niall Quinn (two) and Kevin Kilbane were on target as Sunderland stomped Blackburn 3-0. And in the bottom-of-the-table battle, Ipswich defeated Leicester 2-0.
Robbie Fowler netted his first hat-trick for Leeds in their 3-0 win over Bolton at the Reebok Stadium. A James Beattie second-half strike was enough to secure the points for Southampton against Spurs.
In the first of two London derbys Silvain Wiltord came off the bench to score the winner in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea. Fulham were held to a nil-all draw against Charlton at Craven Cottage.
Meanwhile, West Ham had no problems seeing-off Derby 4-0 at Upton Park.
