Newcastle United went back to the top of the Premiership this afternoon with a thrilling 3-1 win over previous pacemakers Leeds United.

It was the second time Newcastle had done the double over Leeds in as many seasons and the Yorkshire club were hit by the sending-off of Danny Mills for violent conduct midway through the second-half.

The Magpies lead Leeds by a point though both Manchester United and Arsenal can go above Newcastle on goal difference should they win tomorrow against Southampton and Liverpool respectively.

Elsewhere Chelsea's Premiership title hopes took another knock as they twice went ahead only to be held 2-2 by Bolton, a side they thrashed 5-1 three weeks ago and West Ham's Paolo di Canio handed his team a possible farewell present should he leave for Manchester United this week with the only goal against bottom side Leicester.
