A CORONER in England has ordered a new post mortem examination on the body of Lorraine White who died after a violent assault in Callan, Co Kilkenny.
Relatives have not been allowed to bury the 42-year-old grandmother four weeks after her death.
Ms White died from massive internal injuries following an incident in the bathroom of a house in Callan, a month ago tomorrow.
Her body was flown home to Wigan for burial but police in England have not yet released her body to her family.
Authorities in Wigan are said to be unhappy with the lack of information given to them by gardaí investigating the suspected violent death of the mother-of-five.
Ms White died at St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny hours after she was admitted with massive internal injuries in the early hours of March 8th.
It is understood results from a post mortem carried out on her body at Kilkenny proved inconclusive and gardaí are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
The coroner's office in Wigan has ordered that a new post mortem be carried out so an exact cause of death can be recorded on the death certificate.
Ms White had moved to Callan in recent years with an Irish man she had met in Wigan. She had lived in the town with her daughter Elizabeth and two of her grandchildren from another daughter.
Local councillor Matt Doran, who helped raise €9,500 in a fund to meet transport and funeral expenses, said Ms White's family hoped they could make funeral arrangements this week.
One man was arrested in connection with Ms White's death and released without charge. A file has been sent to the DPP.
