The Maze escaper, Mr Brendan McFarlane, has been further remanded on bail on charges connected with the 1983 kidnap of the supermarket executive, Mr Don Tidey.
Mr McFarlane (46), of Jamaica Street, Belfast, is charged with falsely imprisoning Mr Tidey between November 24th and December 16th, 1983. He is also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and having a firearm for an unlawful purpose at Derrada Wood, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, between November 25th and December 16th, 1983.
Yesterday the Assistant State Solicitor, Ms Eileen Creedon, told the Special Criminal Court she expected to receive the Garda file on the case later this week. The court remanded Mr McFarlane on continuing bail of £100,000 until June 10th.
Mr McFarlane escaped from the Maze in 1983, was arrested in Amsterdam and extradited to Northern Ireland before his release on parole from the Maze last year.
