WARSAW – Polish prime minister Donald Tusk began talks on forming a new coalition yesterday after his centre-right Civic Platform became the first party to win a second consecutive term since the fall of communism in 1989.

Mr Tusk met President Bronislaw Komorowski and the head of the Peasants’ Party, his coalition partner for the last four years, after his pro-business party won 39 per cent of the vote in Sunday’s election but fell short of an absolute majority. Fitch ratings agency has urged Warsaw to move swiftly to put its public finances in order. – (Reuters)
