German airline Lufthansa is to introduce a new tariff system for its winter flights to fight the low-cost airlines, the Financial Times Deutschlandnewspaper reports.
The new tariffs, which will begin from late October, are expected to apply mainly to off-peak flights between European capitals, the newspaper said.
The German flag carrier will reportedly drop some previous booking restrictions to make better use of empty seats.
The changes follow the same inventory management model used by low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, who operate out of Frankfurt, where fares are dictated by seat availability rather than how far in advance the booking is made.
Last week, Lufthansa said it expected to return profit this year after turning in a net loss of €633 million.
