A new pier is to be developed in the fisheries harbour at Dunmore East, Co Waterford.
Funding of €800,000 for initial work was announced yesterday by the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, Mr Cullen, who said it was a positive development that would not only bring valuable immediate investment to Dunmore East, but also help secure funding for the future development of the harbour.
"Dunmore East is a key national fishery harbour. I am delighted that €800,000 has been approved for funding of key activities at the harbour," the Minister said. "This investment is good for the fishing industry in Waterford and also for tourism, which is central to the community in Dunmore East."
Consultants will be engaged to examine how best the picturesque harbour can be developed.
