Tonight's CIS Insurance Cup tie between Aberdeen and Motherwell has been called off after a virus swept through the squad at Pittodrie.

The tournament's organisers, the Scottish Football League, agreed to postpone the tie after almost 20 Aberdeen players were laid low with a "winter sickness virus" and told to stay away from the club.

The third round tie will now be played on Wednesday, November 6th at 7.45p.m.

The Dons are also in league action at champions Celtic on Sunday and manager Ebbe Skovdahl has told his players not to come back to Pittodrie until Friday lunchtime.

Club doctor Derek Gray explained: "The players are suffering from a winter sickness virus that is spread by droplet infection.

"Although it is short lived and no treatment is required, it is sensible to isolate those affected as much as possible and, while some non-playing staff have been affected, the problem has been contained in the main to the playing staff."
