Aer Lingus has appointed a new chairman following the death of Mr Bernie Cahill two weeks ago.

Aer Lingus has appointed a new chairman following the death of Mr Bernie Cahill two weeks ago.

Mr Cahill will be succeeded by Mr Tom Mulcahy, the former Chief Executive of Allied Irish Banks.

Making the announcement this evening, the Minister for Public Enterprise, Ms O’Rourke, said Mr Mulcahy was taking over the company "at a time of great challenge and great opportunity".

Mr Cahill died in a drowning accident close to his home in Schull, west Cork on August 17th.

According to local gardaí, Mr Cahill (70) had gone to secure his speed boat at his private pier when he fell into the water.
