An appeal by Catherine Nevin against her conviction for the murder of her husband Tom is unlikely to be heard until the new year, the Court of Criminal Appeal was told yesterday.
Mr Paul Burns, for Nevin, said his side still had some brief submissions to lodge, which would take three or four weeks. The appeal hearing would take three to four days, he added.
Mr Justice Geoghegan said the case would not, in reality, get a hearing before the next law term, which starts in January.
The case was put into the court list for mention on November 26th, when the court will be updated on the situation.
Three remanded on gun charges
Three Dublin men charged with unlawful possession of guns and ammunition were further remanded by the Special Criminal Court yesterday .
Mr Philip Smith (35), Moynihan Court, Tallaght; Mr William Jordan (33), Moynihan Court and Mr Stephen O'Shaughnessy (22), Main Street, Tallaght, are each charged with the unlawful possession of three shotguns and 12 shotgun cartridges at Moynihan Court, Tallaght on July 4th last.
They were remanded until November 13th when the book of evidence will be served.
Man admits killing during violent row
A Dublin man pleaded guilty yesterday to the manslaughter of another man during a violent row in St Stephen's Green, Dublin, in April.
At the Central Criminal Court, Thomas Corway (23), Coolock, pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of Mr Patrick (Paddy) Pepper on April 9th.
Corway's plea was accepted by the State and he was remanded in custody for sentencing on January 17th next.
Heroin charge trial nears its end
The trial of a Scottish national on drugs charges has reached its concluding stages at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and a verdict is expected later today.
Mr John Lynn Jnr (22), Muirside Avenue, Mount Vernon, Glasgow has pleaded not guilty to possession of heroin in Dublin city centre on April 2nd last year with intent to supply it.
Girl left on beach is given €10,000
A six-year-old girl who was left stranded on a Lanzarote beach for half an hour has won €10,000 damages against Budget Travel Ltd.
Counsel for Ciara Thornton, Newragh, Knockbridge, Dundalk, told the Circuit Civil Court that Ciara had gone to the beach with the Kiddies' Club, a two-hour group outing organised by Budget Travel.
On the bus on the way back to the Valparaiso apartments at Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, Ciara's older brother, Kenneth, had noticed she was missing and had raised the alarm.
The bus had returned to the beach and Ciara had been found in a distressed state being cared for by strangers.
Girl wins damages over scalding
A six-year-old girl whose upper thighs were scalded when coffee was spilled over her on a flight from Portugal has been awarded €6,750 damages against Monarch Airlines, Luton Airport.
Counsel for Shannon Currivan, Kilbelin Park, Newbridge, Co Kildare, said the accident occurred two years ago as Shannon was returning from a holiday.
An air steward, who had been pouring coffee into a cup on a serving platter, just above where Shannon was sitting, had inadvertently spilled the hot drink on her.
