London - Police are investigating claims that an alleged Nazi war criminal is living in Britain. The producers of an American documentary said they had tracked Mr Konrad Kalejs, who allegedly served in a notorious commando unit which massacred thousands of civilians in Latvia during the second World War, to Rugby, Warwickshire, but that he had declined to speak.
A Warwickshire Police spokeswoman said they had commenced initial inquiries into the situation based on the very limited information they had to date. The Simon Wiesenthal Centre claims that Konrad Kalejs served as a lieutenant in the infamous Arajs Kommando unit, which actively participated in the mass murder of at least 30,000 civilians, primarily Jews, in Latvia during the war.
