RESIDENTS of the lower Ormeau in south Belfast and Garvaghy Road in Portadown, Co Armagh, are meeting politicians in Dublin today to complain about the behaviour of the RUC and the Orange Order last week.

The nationalist delegation is holding talks with the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton, the Fianna Fail leader, Mr Bertie Ahern, and the Progressive Democrat leader, Ms Mary Harney. They will also meet various community organisations in the city and hold a rally at St Stephen's Green at 7.30 p.m.

"We will impress the anger of nationalist communities at their treatment by the RUC and the British government," said a spokesman for the Lower Ormeau Concerned Community.

The delegation will also raise the Drumcree march and the police curfew of the lower Ormeau.

Meanwhile, the Orange Order, the Apprentice Boys of Derry, and the Royal Black Preceptory are planning further controversial marches across the North next month.

On August 10th a section of Belfast Apprentice Boys are due to march down the lower Ormeau. Last year, there were serious disturbances when the RUC forcibly removed protesters from the streets.

It is believed nationalist residents plan a similar sit down protest this year.

There would be three choices for the RUC under such circumstances to reroute the Apprentice Boys' parade forcibly remove the protesters from the road, which would possibly lead to a riot or implement another curfew to keep the residents off the streets. At least four other marches by the Orange Order and the Royal Black Preceptory are expected to include Belfast's Lower Ormeau next month.

It is unknown if nationalists plan to oppose an Orange march in Keady, Co Armagh, in ten days. Meanwhile, Lower Ormeau residents are taking legal action against the RUC, British government and Orange Order for unlawful detention and false imprisonment.

Solicitors for one resident, Mr Sean Beckett, will issue a writ against the RUC Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Annesley, today. Hundreds of other residents are expected to take similar action over coming weeks. The Garvaghy Residents' Coalition is attempting to force a judicial review of the RUC's action in their area.
