Road and waste management operator National Toll Roads (NTR) said today turnover for 2001 rose by 106 per cent to €87.8 million.
Profit after tax for the year was €11.7 million, from €14.5 million in 2000, reflecting increased investment by the group and a rise in the municipal rates bill at West-Link of €2.5 million.
The turnover increase stems from the greater contribution from Celtic Waste (turnover of €32.7 million) and wind-generated electricity operator Airtricity (€27.3 million) in the period.
Last year NTR bought 76.9 per cent of Celtic Utilities for €46.1 million, increasing its effective interest in Celtic Waste to 88.5 per cent and giving NTR an effective 38.5 per cent stake in Celtic Anglian Water, the leading private water operator in the Irish water and waste-water sector.
Airtricity won a development licence for a 520 megawatt wind park on the Arklow Bank.
