Nama has rejected a claim by a Fine Gael TD that its handling of a pig farm operation could lead to the slaughter of 20,000 pigs as it was not prepared to pay for their feeding.
Tom Barry (North Cork) made his allegation on RTÉ radio yesterday when he said Nama wanted pigs slaughtered on a farm under its control.
He said agreements between AIB and the farm owner were not being honoured and the pigs faced destruction if feed was not supplied. A spokesman for Nama said it was not directly involved in managing the farm, which was being handled on its behalf by AIB. It emerged, last night, that bank funding had been made available for feed.
