GENEVA - North Korea yesterday acknowledged for the first time that children had died of malnutrition in the country, saying almost one child in seven was suffering as a consequence of dire food shortages, a UNICEF spokesman said.
At a briefing with UN agencies in Pyongyang, Nortk Korean health ministry officials said that 134 children had died of malnutrition across the country, spokesman Hans Olsen said. Two years of devastating floods have sparked severe food shortages in North Korea.
