Riverdance composer Bill Whelan was in Limerick last night for the launch of a new music scholarship programme aimed at making music accessible to young people from marginalised sectors of society.

The Peter Dee Academy of Music Scholarship Programme will see 100 scholarships awarded to suitable candidates who will study under the tutelage of musician and composer Denis Carey. The Peter Dee Academy of Music, which is owned and managed by Carey, has been providing music tuition to people across the midwest for almost 40 years.

Full details of the programme, including how to apply or how to support the programme’s instrument bank, are available by contacting the academy on 061 310028.
