Gardaí investigating the murder of Waterford mother Meg Walsh (35) believe she died from head injuries following a severe assault.

A preliminary postmortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy found the victim suffered severe injuries to the upper body, but it is being reported this morning that this includes severe head injuries.

Detectives also believe that Ms Walsh's body may have been in the water for up to two weeks before being found near a city-centre quay in Waterford on Sunday last.

She was reported missing on October 2nd.

No motive has been established for the murder, nor has the location of the killing been confirmed. Her home at Ballinakill Downs has been sealed off and is being treated as a crime scene.

Supt Dave Sheahan of Waterford Garda station said gardaí wanted to talk to anyone who saw Ms Walsh's Mitsubishi Carisma in the Uluru car park, in the Ardkeen area, or in the Ballinakill area who saw the 01 W 2060 registered car between October 1st and early in the morning on October 4th when it was found by gardaí.

Ms Walsh will be buried in in north Cork following a requiem Mass in her native Killavullen near Mallow on Thursday.
