THE REMAINS of a woman found stabbed to death in the Phoenix Park more than six weeks ago are still in Dublin while her family in Romania try to make financial arrangements to bring her body home.

Eugenia Bratis (50) from Timisoara in Romania was found in a wooded area off Military Road in the Phoenix Park on August 5th last.

A postmortem by the Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Michael Curtis, found Ms Bratis, who has a husband and two adult children in Romania and who was “living rough” in Dublin died of multiple stab wounds.

The Garda inquiry into the death of Ms Bratis is ongoing, Det Insp Colm Fox of Blanchardstown Garda station told an inquest into Ms Bratis’s death, which was opened at Dublin City Coroner’s Court yesterday.

An intensive appeal by the Garda for information was launched following the discovery of Ms Bratis’s body in August.

She was identified among a number of individuals whose pictures were taken by photographer, Julian Gillespie as part of a collection entitled, “Life in Dublin”. She was later positively identified from DNA samples taken from her son and daughter, Liviniu Abraham (24) and Roxana Abraham (20).

It is believed she came to Ireland to beg and sent home money to assist her family.

Insp Fox said the family are, at the moment, trying to make financial arrangements to bring the body back to Romania.

“Is that progressing? Can we be of assistance?” said coroner Dr Brian Farrell. “They must be anxious to have the body returned. We’re happy to release it,” he said.

He granted Insp Fox’s application to adjourn the inquest into Ms Bratis’s death for six months under Section 25.1 of the Coroner’s Act 1962.
