A murder trial jury will continue its deliberations at the Central Criminal Court tomorrow in the trial of a 32 year-old man accused of murdering his former partner's boyfriend in Tallaght in 2001.
Mr Justice Paul Butler sent the jury to a hotel tonight after it failed to reach a verdict after more than two hours deliberating in the trial of Mr Gerard McKeever.
Mr McKeever, a delivery worker formerly from Ballymun and with at address at Jobstown, Tallaght, Dublin has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Glen Dunne (31) in Bawnlea Drive, Tallaght on November 11, 2001.
Mr Dunne, who was from Finglas died after sustaining three knife wounds during a row with Mr McKeever, one of which was fatal.
The defence claim that Mr McKeever was provoked by allegations he had heard that Mr Dunne had sexually "interfered" with his four year-old daughter.
The accused gave evidence that he confronted Mr Dunne about the allegations and about further suggestions that Mr Dunne had robbed his house some years earlier. He said he intended to threaten him with the knife, but "exploded" and stabbed him.
The prosecution argues that Mr McKeever armed himself with an 8-inch boning knife intending to cause serious harm to Mr Dunne. Mr Dunne had just been released from prison and was socialising with Mr McKeever's former partner on the night he was killed.
