A leading loyalist, Mr Mark "Swinger" Fulton, was being secretly tape-recorded as he told his brother about providing guns and a "clean" car for an assassination team, it was claimed yesterday.

The allegation was made by a prosecution lawyer in the High Court in Belfast when Mr Fulton (41), from Hobson Park, Portadown, applied for bail on a charge of conspiracy to murder Mr Rodney Jennett as part of the LVF/UVF feud. Barrister Mr Charles McKay said the murder attempt was thwarted when police intercepted a car carrying four alleged members of the LVF. Mr Justice Higgins refused bail.
