New York police have begun a murder investigation after an Irishman was shot in the city on Sunday night.
John Kelly (43) died of a single gunshot wound to the head in the Bronx area of the city at 8pm on Sunday (1am Irish time).
He was shot by "persons unknown and for unknown reasons" an NYPD spokesman told ireland.com. "There is no description of the suspect", he added.
Mr Kelly, a married father of three, is originally from Sixmilebridge in Co Clare and was working as a building superintendent at 3505 Bruckner Boulevard when he was killed as he moved a ladder outside.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said they were aware of the reports of Mr Kelly's death but had not yet been contacted for assistance.
