Gardaí are tonight appealing for members of the public to come forward after the latest suspected gangland killing in Dublin.

Officers launched a murder investigation after a man in his 20s was found dead with gunshot wounds in the Finglas area of Dublin. The body was discovered by gardaí at 1.15 p.m. in an area known as The Trench on Scribblestown Lane.

A Garda spokeswoman said it appears the man, believed to be in his 20s, suffered gunshot wounds. It is believed he was hooded and shot in the head and that his killing may be part of a gangland feud.

The man had been reported missing a number of days ago and officers from the Garda Divisional search team made the discovery.

Gardaí area appealing for members of the public to help in their investigations.

Detective Inspector Brian Sherry said: "We can understand the fears of people because of the amount of deaths in the area and shootings.

"People are automatically going to be afraid of this - but we need their help, and we are appealing to them to come to us.

"Without their help, we cannot beat these gangs. We have armed patrols in the area and we are combating them.

"We are bringing the fight to them, but we need back-up from the people here. We are willing to meet them in any part of the country and they can guarantee their safety will be ensured."
