1980: Purchase of 1,826 acres of bog at Cruaghaun, near Bangor Erris, by Myles Staunton - 50 acres to supply seaweed factory in Newport.

1982: Min Fheir Teo grassmeal company at Muingmore put into liquidation. Assets purchased by Udaras na Gaeltachta.

1987: Peat Power Ltd established at Muingmore by Myles Staunton, with investment from Nadcorp and AIB.

1988: Receiver appointed to Peat Power Ltd.

1990: North Connacht Farmers' Co-op and Borregaard engage in research and development with Myles Staunton, leasing assets from receiver.

1992: London-based Mayo investors, McNicholas Construction, McNicholas Engineering and Ruddy Construction, engaged in further research and development.

1994: Norsk Hydro approached by Mr Staunton in 1994. New company, Hydro Energi, involving 70 per cent stake by Norsk Hydro and 30 per cent stake by Thomas McDonogh of Galway.

1999: Norsk Hydro pulls out of Muingmore. Assets bought by Gerard Clarke of Cavan. Udaras na Gaeltachta recoups £1.8 million in State grants.
