Dublin's traffic chaos is being "fuelled by Government negligence" and "delay over the appointment of a traffic "supremo", according to Mr Eoin Ryan TD, the Fianna Fail spokesman on ecology and urban renewal.
He pointed to official figures which show that the number of cars towed away by the Garda has been halved in the past two years, from 7,303 in 1994 to just 3,013 so far this year: yet illegal parking was "a major contributor to traffic chaos".
Mr Ryan said this problem needed to be tackled in the same way as drink-driving by launching a campaign with the theme "Move it or lose it", as Fianna Fail had suggested two weeks ago.
