The mother of a victim of the Shankill bomb is to ask the Northern Secretary, Dr Mo Mowlam, to refuse Christmas parole to the bomber, Sean Kelly, writes Suzanne Breen, in Belfast. Ms Gina Murray, whose daughter, Leanne (13), was killed in the IRA explosion, said she was horrified that Kelly could be released for the festive season.
Ten people were killed in the 1993 blast including the other bomber, Thomas Begley. "I can't believe that Kelly qualifies for Christmas leave after killing so many people just five years ago," Ms Murray said.
Kelly is eligible for Christmas parole because he has already been given a final release date under the terms of the Belfast Agreement by the Sentences Review Commission.
