Israel's Mossad came under fire today as it emerged the spy agency knew of a terror threat in Kenya before last week's attacks.
The head of military intelligence service, General Yossi Kuperwasser, told a parliamentary committee Mossad had "received advance information on planned Al-Qaeda attacks in Africa and notably Mombasa in Kenya."
Three Israelis were among the 13 victims of last Thursday's suicide car-bomb attack on a hotel in the Kenyan city of Mombasa. Minutes earlier, two shoulder-launched missiles fired at a tourist-packed Israeli charter flying home from Mombasa narrowly missed their target.
Gen Kupperwasser said the information received gave no indication as to when the attacks would take place nor did it specify that Israelis would be targeted. But his remarks were the first admission of shortcomings on the part of the Israeli intelligence services.
