London - Women and young entrepreneurs are increasingly joining the ranks of Britain's richest people, according to a survey in the Sunday Times. The list of the wealthiest 1,000 Britons sees London-based cosmetics business woman Paloma Picasso become the highest new entrant, estimated to be worth £350 million.
Mr Hans Rausing (73), whose father patented the box-shaped milk carton, overtakes Lord Sainsbury (58) and his family to become Britain's richest person, worth £3.4 billion. Mr Rausing sold his stake in Tetra Laval, the world's biggest packaging group, to his Swiss-based brother Gad in 1995.
The richest woman is Lady Granchester (73), head of the Moores family which controls Littlewoods. She is worth £1.5 billion and ranks sixth overall. Queen Elizabeth's estimated £250 million only makes it in at number 87.
