London - Mrs Ann West, the mother of Moors murder victim Lesley Ann Downey, has died aged 69 after a long battle against liver cancer. She died at her home in Fallowfield, Manchester.
Mrs West had suffered 34 years of torment following the brutal killing of her 10-year-old daughter who was snatched from a fairground by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady on Boxing Day, 1964, before being sexually assaulted and strangled.
After Hindley's attempt to overturn the Home Secretary's ruling that she would die in prison was blocked by the courts Mrs West said: "I will rest in peace, but I will haunt that woman."
